My Background in Early Childhood Literacy
My literacy credentials include a B.A. In Early Childhood Education from Wake Forest University, a M.Ed. in Early Literacy Education from the University of Virginia, and National Board Certification in Literacy. I have written literacy curriculum for Pages & Chapters, an educational nonprofit for increasing family literacy. During my time teaching, I was a leader in my school for digital literacy and led workshops for parents and district school staff. I continually stay up to date on best literacy practices for young children via my membership to the International Literacy Association, taking accredited courses in Early Childhood Literacy, and active subscription to Zero To Three, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the development of our youngest children. I also organized a weekly preschool virtual literacy session to support parents in developing their child's literacy during the coronavirus pandemic.
I'm a member and volunteer with Society of Children's Book Authors and Illustrators, three critique groups, and Children's Book Insider. I've completed 3 years of the 12x12 Writing Challenge, and have been published in The Reading Teacher magazine. I also write literacy blog posts (link below).
